Three very different Christmas songs.

Thanks so much, Eva (B2.1) for reminding me of this song.  I love the irony and the Irish vibes.
Trivia: Their original name was Póg mo thóin  wich means Kiss my Ass.

I know you'll love the next one (read the irony in this sentence) and we'll most probably listen in class.

The last one is Tommy Johansson's latest song.

  1. I definitely prefer Fairytale of New York, as it reminds me every Christmas I’ve spent in the UK. However, the version we usually listen to at home is the clean one because the lyrics of the original song are a bit misogynist and homophobic.
Have you already heard about the controversy around this song, especially in recent years, when it has been played on public media such as the BBC?

    1. Hi Alberto,
First of all, thanks for sharing your opinion. To be frank, I first listened to this song when MacGowan died last month and then again when a student sent it to me a few days ago.
You haven't known me for long, but as you can imagine, it wasn't my intention to offend anybody when I posted this. Even if people don't believe it when I say it, I'm neither homophobic, nor racist.... it's the truth. For me we are all the same and equally fascinating.
I understand the fact that some people might find the lyrics controversial, but I guess the song is a product of its times and that these guys were basically trying to provoke others.
And one more thing, where can I find that 'clean' version? YouTube, I guess.
Just one little mistake: reminds me OF
I hope you are having a great holiday despite the boring British pubs. :)
P.S. I'm not going to tell you which one is my favourite because I'm sure you already know.
