Cooking British food

The food writer Howard Hillman classes bubble and squeak as one of the "great peasant dishes of the world".

Do you know what bubble and squeak is?

Have you ever eaten it?

Would you like to learn how to make it?

You can also find written recipes online.

  1. Hi María,
I didn't know this recipe. When I saw the photo, it seemed to me like the classic omelet with vegetables.
The name of the recipe caught my attention. I mean, “bubble", a sphere of liquid enclosing air, and “squeak” a high-pitched noise… What can I say, it blew me away!
I’ve been doing some research and apparently, the vegetable mixture makes a noise that resembles bubbling, as well as squeaking when it curdles in the pan. The imagination of the British knows no limits! Hahaha
The truth is that it looks like a simple recipe and could be delicious with a fish or meat dish, or even just as an appetizer.
I like the way the chef has explained it, but I feel that it is a bit dry. Thanks to the lightly fried egg and the salad dressing it will be a bit more digestible. Well, that's my impression.
Let's see if one day I bring myself to make this recipe!
    See you tomorrow!

  2. Hello Fatima, I agree with what you say about how creative the English language is (and the people who speak it)
And thanks for doing my homework for me once again. I didn't know the origin of the word. And one last thing: after reading your comment, I asked Debra and she told me she has never cooked it herself...yet, but that it's delicious.
